The Hollow, Orchids and Herbs

I bought my first orchid in Del Mar, CA, kept it on my office in La Jolla where it bloomed continuously for 9 months. Added more orchids while living in Santa Barbara and then packed them up in a 1965 Mustang with two cats and a 5 year old boy and drove across country to Ithaca. I think I was braver then. We built a geodesic dome for the orchids but of course they outgrew that and we decided to stay in Upstate NY so I had built the 60 x 20 greenhouse I have now. It’s built on a design from McGill University. I had and still have an assortment of plants but have focused on equitants because they mature quickly and I like the flowers.

I pollinated my first equitants in the mid-eighties but have gotten more serious lately.

The greenhouse is open to visitors by appointment during the spring blooming season
